School hours are 7:30 a.m. to 2:35 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Arrival
The doors open at 7:20a.m. each morning. At 7:30 all students need to come in through the main doors, the exterior doors are locked and class has begun.
Dismissal
Parents are asked to pick up their students by 2:45 p.m. through the car line. Students leaving late will NOT be sent out the front door. A parent or authorized pick-up person must come into the school to sign out the student.
Our priority is to make the parking lots safe for our students and families.
Grissom Elementary Construction Update
We are excited to share an update on the improvements underway at Grissom Elementary. These projects are designed to create a safer, more efficient arrival and dismissal experience for our students, families, and staff.
New Drop-Off & Pick-Up Lane
Construction of the north drop-off and pick-up lane is complete! The lane will accommodate up to 24 vehicles and will help reduce traffic congestion around the front of campus.
New Family Parking Lot
The new family parking lot will provide up to 18 parking spaces for families who need to park and walk up for dismissal. This lot is not intended to be the primary pick-up location. Families are encouraged to use the drive-through pick-up lanes whenever possible to help keep dismissal moving safely and efficiently.
The contractor anticipates completing the parking lot as soon as possible. Until completion, there are safety protocols in place surrounding the construction site.

At 7:20 a.m., students may get out of cars and enter the building. Parents stay in cars.
Staff will help students out of the cars as families learn the routine.
Lower and Upper Elementary will continue to arrive using 73rd East Avenue from the south, students will enter through the main doors under the blue Grissom awning.
Children’s House and their siblings will use our new drive on the north side of the school. The new drive is located on 66th Street and you will enter from the west and exit to the east. An adult will escort your child to the building.
The former Children’s House drive and new parking lot will now be used for a Park and Walk Up option.

Parents wait in cars.
Children’s House and their siblings will be picked up using the new north drive. A staff member will assist your child to the car.
Lower and Upper Elementary will dismiss to the main parking lot.
Lower Elementary will be with their teachers on the north side of the main steps.
Upper Elementary will be with their teachers on the south side of the main steps.
If you have children in both Lower and Upper Elementary, they will be picked up on the Lower Elementary side. Walkers
Independent walkers will be dismissed by their teachers to walk home.
Parents walking with your children will wait for your child by the Children’s House ramp.
If crossing S.73rd East Ave, please use the crosswalk.
We know that new traffic patterns take time to learn. During the first few weeks of school, campus leadership and the project team will closely monitor traffic flow, pedestrian safety, and dismissal procedures and make adjustments as needed.

Regular and punctual attendance is mandatory for student success. There is not a way to make up instruction presented on any specific day. A good education requires continuity of instruction. We follow all School Board Policies regarding attendance. If your child is ill and unable to attend class, please contact the school office (918-833-9460). Remember to bring a doctor’s note upon returning to school.
A tardy slip will be issued to students arriving at or after 7:35 a.m. A parent/guardian must bring student to the office kiosk to sign the student in for the day. Any student who is late by more than one hour (at 8:36 or later) will be counted absent one-half day. Chronic tardiness (excused or unexcused) deprives your child of valuable classroom experiences and disrupts the continuity of lessons for other students. Please help your child develop a responsible work ethic by ensuring that he/she is present, on time, and ready to learn.
Early Release of Students
No students will be dismissed after 2:00 p.m. Any adult picking up a student must provide a valid photo ID and be on the student’s approved pick-up list. The student will be called from the classroom to the office. All students must be signed our through the office kiosk. Students are expected to remain on school grounds until proper check-out procedures have been followed. School dismisses at 2:35. Anytime a student is not in class they are missing valuable learning time. Please make every effort to schedule doctor & dentist appointments after school hours. If a student is picked up more than an hour early (before 1:35 p.m.), he/she will be counted absent one-half day.
